UMass doctoral student Catie Fowler will be presenting her lead-authored work at the International Studies Association 2021 Annual Conference. Co-authored with Robert Nagel, Meredith Loken, and Charli Carpenter, the article investigates whether women’s participation in armed groups impacts civilian targeting. Their findings unsettle the notion that women’s influence on violence is uniformly pacifist and advance our existing knowledge on women’s contributions to violence during armed conflict.
If you are attending the conference and interested in learning more, stop in for the Junior Scholar Symposium, SECURITY—Gender and Conflict, at 9:30 am on Friday April 9th.
