Human Security Lab Director Joins Peace Research Institute in Frankfurt as International Security Fellow

Human security specialist Professor Charli Carpenter is working remotely from a residence at the Peace Research Institute in Frankfurt for two months this Spring. There she joins PRIF’s International Security working group studying humanitarian disarmament and the laws of war, mentors junior scholars in her spare time, and will present her work in progress on the nuclear taboo.

The Peace Research Institute in Frankfurt is one of the leading peace institutes in Europe, analyzing the causes of international and intrastate conflicts and look for ways to solve them. The International Security cluster examines developments and dynamics in warfare, the transformation of norms and rules regarding the legitimate use of force, and arms control.

While splitting her time between Frankfurt and Amherst, Carpenter simultaneously continues full-time remote work at University of Massachusetts teaching on Conflict Studies, coordinating the Conflict, Violence and Security Workshop and directing Human Security Lab, an interdisciplinary collective of scholars and graduate students using science in the service of a more just world.
