Lab Hosts World Court Justice Fausto Pocar to Speak at UMass on Ukraine v. Russia Cases

Human Security Lab is pleased to welcome World Court Justice Fausto Pocar to UMass campus on April 11 for a distinguished lecture starting at 4pm, followed by a reception, free and open to the public. The lecture, “Ukraine v. Russia at the ICJ” will highlight the recent International Court of Justice ruling on Ukraine v. Russian Federation (2024) on Russia’s failure to suppress financing terrorism as well as the Ukraine-Russia genocide case.

Fausto Pocar, an ad hoc judge at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) since 2000, has been a pioneer in international human rights law. He is a Professor Emeritus of International Law at the University of Milan, President of the San Remo International Institute of Humanitarian Law, and a member of the Hague Academy of International Law. Pocar served as the President of the International Criminal Court for the Former Yugoslavia from November 2005 until November 2008. While a Judge in the Trial Chamber, he was involved in the first case of rape as a crime against humanity. He has written widely on topics such as human rights and humanitarian law, and private international law and European law.
